6th Annual Saratoga International Flavorfeast
Grab your flavor passports and adventure through Saratoga Spring’s international culinary wonderland.
October 12, 2019 - Saratoga Spring’s 6th International Flavorfeast happened on a perfect October day. With over 20 vendors putting out delicious food and drinks for just a $1, it was the perfect excuse to try a few new restaurants and a couple old favorites.
We started walking down Division Street and quickly came upon a packed Downtowner parking lot. Vendors had stands all about and a mob of people had already begun feasting by the time we entered the scene. One that we had set our sights on was Dizzy Chicken, showcasing American Barbecue with their St. Louis Ribs & Smoke-Roasted Chicken Thigh. Both were outstanding, ribs off the bone and the chicken was tender. The bbq sauce was out-of-this-world and I must admit, I drank it.
With the crowd getting a little too wild for our tastes, we made the trek to Phila Street and descended to our next stop, The Falafel Den. Falafel is very hit-or-miss for me; it can’t be too dry, but it needs to be crispy. They got the balance just right and the tahini sauce on top wrapped it all together nicely. They were also giving out free stuffed grape leaves and gave each of us a pair. Free or not, they were worth it.
From there, we crossed the street and waited in the longest line of the day. Ravenous Creperie had me at poutine, but they also had pommes frites, Belgian waffle, and Moroccan mint tea. All were exceptional, but we love Moroccan mint tea and highly recommend you tasting it. I also enjoyed how Ravenous represented a wide range of international flavors and they deserve applause for giving you a little taste of the world in a single stop.
Crossing Maple Ave, we hiked up to a longtime favorite of mine, Sushi Thai Garden. I first ate their nearly 20 years ago and I still love it. They were giving out their amazing vegetable pad thai, various sushi rolls, Thai iced tea, and a new one for me - Gai Gra Prow (mint chicken with basil sauce). That Gai Gra Prow suprised me with how much I loved it. It reminded me of Korean Bulgolgi, but was Thai and was chicken. I will definetly be keeping my eyes out for that dish again.
Moving up the street to our next stop right next door was Phila Fusion. If you like General Tso’s, you need to try theirs. They also had the Vietnamese staple, Pho with its signature, beefy goodness. We also got a hot Thai tea, which had that delicious flavor, but we are definetly more of a fan of the iced variety.
To finish off this little adventure, we crossed the street for some killer Italian food from Solevo Kitchen + Social. They were serving up their Pane Cotte with House baked Focaccia. It tasted like dinner at your Italian friend’s house (or your house, I’m not Italian). Perfect way to end a perfect day - well almost. We did make a quick stop into Ben & Jerry’s, for I needed a Strawberry Cheesecake Milkshake.
All together, I love how Saratoga celebrates its diverse and delicious culinary scene. Make sure you check out all of these wonderful restaurants and vendors. Everything I ate was delicious and I recommend you eating all of the food. Visit Saratoga Flavorfeast for info on next year’s event. Comment below with your favorite foods.
