EEEEEATSCON 2019 - Day 2
If you are looking to eat a bunch of diverse and delicious dishes, you need to check out EEEEEATSCON. This was my first time going and I’m going to highlight my favorite eats. New York City is known for its food and this event showed you and your taste buds why.
This is Day 2…
October 6, 2019 - Woke up in my cozy Airbnb and walked straight to Forest Hills Stadium for Day 2 of EEEEEATSCON. Traversing through Queens is always a fascinating adventure. I’ll leave a slideshow at the bottom if you want to see more. I got in line around 11:30am and as soon as the gates opened, I casually made my way to the Hattie B’s stand. I wasn’t alone in, as it was still about a 20-minute wait. I must say, Hattie B’s had a grand operation going. A greeter controlled the line and had a smile from here to Nashville. I picked the Damn Hot - no way I could go full Shut the Cluck Up level of spiciness. As I waited for my sandwich, I was drawn in by their staff’s energy and positivity. I had a moment where I reminded myself that this was all just for eating food.
Finally getting that fabled hot, chicken sandwich, my next challenge was finding somewhere to eat it in peace. And also to shamelessly take photos of it and have no one bear witness to the inevitable painful reaction that spoiler alert I totally had. I landed on a spot as my hunger grew too unbearable to continue looking. Of course, two children came around and decided to jump around my perimeter, but at least I had chicken. That spice was for real and images of the spiciest Thai food came dancing into mind. Now, I know I have to go to Nashville and get this from its source. Let me know in the comments if you’ve ever been to Hattie B’s in Nashville and if you’ve survived their spiciest levels.
Sunday was far more family oriented and relaxed compared to Saturday. It was also overcast, which made for better lighting at least. Although I just devoured the spiciest chicken sandwich I’ve ever had, I wanted breakfast. Luckily, Daily Provisions had a bacon, egg, and cheese on a croissant. The twist - the croissant had everything bagel spice on it. The bacon was thick and flavorful and the egg was runny and perfectly cooked. This is easily among the top of the top eats for me during this weekend.
Now, it was time for something a little sweet. I also wanted to try something completely different than I’m used to, so I knew just the spot. Kopitiam and their delicious Malaysian cuisine was serving a Kaya Butter Toast. Kaya Jam, a combination of coconut and pandan - known as the Vanilla of Southeast Asia. In hindsight, I should have gotten two orders. Just another reason to check out more Malaysian food.
My next stop on the EEEEEATSCON express had to be Cubano Sliders from Sanguich de Miami. After a criminal short wait time, I got my sliders and it didn’t take long to devour them. The bread stood out the most - it’s the best bread I’ve had with a Cuban sandwich ever. So far, I’ve added Malaysia, Nashville, and Miami to my bucket-list stops. Granted, most of those were already on it.
After walking and sight seeing around, I came to my last dish of my first EEEEEATSCON. I decided to go with the Match/ Taro Ice cream from Bestfren. It was the perfect sendoff to a perfect foodie weekend. It was also a beautiful dish and I felt bad for eating it. But it was delicious so it had to happen.
I pretty much loved all the food I ate over the weekend. I still had my favorites though. Here’s my top 3 in no particular order:
Short rib sandwich - Crown Shy
Bacon, Egg, and Cheese on Everything Bagel Croissant - Daily Provisions
Peking duck Bao - Shanghai You Garden
Now I am looking forward to my next food adventure. In the meantime, I will be posting about some of my favorite restaurants in Saratoga county. Check out some of my photos from my time in the city.
