EEEEEATSCON 2019 - Day 1

EEEEEATSCON 2019 - Day 1

If you are looking to eat a bunch of diverse and delicious dishes, you need to check out EEEEEATSCON. This was my first time going and I’m going to highlight my favorite eats. New York City is known for its food and this event showed you and your taste buds why.

October 5, 2019 - Took an early train from Albany to the City, as I had to check into my Airbnb at 11am. The gates for EEEEEATSCON 2019 open at noon and I was told to get there early. Everything worked out and I walked into Forest Hills Stadium in Queens at a little after noon. First stop, Shake Shack. They had partnered with Uncle Boon’s to bring this tasty Thai Burger. As I waited nearly 10 minutes to get my hands on this burger, the line for Hattie B’s across the way grew out of the stadium. My first stop for day 2 was settled right there. Back to this Thai Burger, it came with a fried egg, Thai basil, grilled sweet peppers, and Thai bird chili-garlic mayo. They should totally sell this everyday and at every location. Seriously delicious and a perfect start to my EEEEEATSCON adventure.

Heading up a nearby hill, I came across more food and was instantly reminded how incredible this was. The lines were already starting to get long and I started making the decision to wait as little as possible for food. My second stop was Crif Dog, who were serving up a combination of NYC flavor staples in their John John Deragon dog. Hot dog with cream cheese, scallions, and everything bagel spice? Would have gotten a second one, if I didn't need the tummy space.

Next stop on the HungryManning express, Shanghai You Garden and their Peking Duck Bao. One of the longest lines and absolutely worth the wait. Bao’s are one of my favorite foods and they are scarce in my hometown. If you see bao, it’s a must eat - nonnegotiable.

Right next door to Shanghai You Garden was Kopitiam. This was my first time tasting Malaysian food and it might have been the most memorable moment during my EEEEEATSCON weekend. Day 1, I tried Malaysia’s national dish, Nasi Lemak. This coconut rice dish came with cucumbers, hard boiled egg, peanuts, and fried anchovies. My palette expanded after devouring this lovely dish and I will be looking for more Malaysian food on my travels. Let me know in the comments if you’ve tasted Malaysian food. I’d love to get any recommendations for my destined reunion with Malaysian cuisine.

I hated to admit this, but I was already filling up and it had only been a little over an hour. I saw Roasted Short Rib Sandwich and fortunately there was no line. After my first bite of that short rib, I was in love. This might have been the best thing I tasted all weekend. Crown Shy cooked itself a mighty tasty sandwich. I will be putting Crown Shy on my bucket list.

To finish my first day, I had to eat a doughnut. I found no line for this S’Mores Cruller from Daily Provisions and it changed my opinion on crullers. I don’t normally like s’mores flavored treats, but this was the perfect finisher for a delicious food adventure.

Although my first day at EEEEEATSCON was over, my food adventure wasn’t. Having hopped an Uber, I was invited to Williamsburg where my brother and his girlfriend took me to get some delicious pizza. Carmine and Sons’ Upside Down Pizza was the perfect ending to a perfect foodie day. Make sure to check out my article on Day 2 of EEEEEATSCON,
